MvVO AD ART SHOW and Clio Awards Celebrate Fine Art and the World of Advertising

I recently listened to a podcast which featured Stripe’s Head of Design, Katie Dill (tune in here). Given this podcast is aimed at product managers and middle management corporate staffers, I wasn’t expecting anything unusual until Katie used the “B” word— beauty— when talking about designing a product. When we talk about art and design in the realm of business, the idea of beauty rarely gets invoked. If it’s anywhere, it’s in advertising, not in product design. From that moment on, I was fully engaged with the podcast, eager to hear her thoughts. It was the first time I’d heard an executive outside of a creative director discuss the idea of beauty as a legitimate and valuable performance metric.

MvVO ART AD ART SHOW at Powerhouse Arts

Of course, Founder & CEO of MvVO ART/AD ART SHOW Maria van Vlodrop had always emphasized the brilliance of beauty and craft with MvVO. van Vlodrop perhaps saw the writing on the wall when it came to a mix of commerce and art and beauty, bringing artists and brands together to embrace full creativity.

Initiated in 2018, MvVO ART AD ART SHOW draws attention to dual career artists- those that can think in terms of both beauty and commercial value. Artists will be the first to let you know of the importance of simultaneously nurturing creative endeavors and staying aware.

This contemporary art show bridges the art world and the advertising industry by featuring fine art created by artists working in advertising, design, directly for brands and in related fields. Ranging from paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography and mixed media works, the 2023 show took place in the Herzog & de Meuron-designed Powerhouse Arts housed in the former Brooklyn Rapid Transit power plant.

Whether we realize it or not, art plays a vital role in our contemporary lives and MvVO ART AD ART SHOW is designed to celebrate, educate, and communicate that through awards, discussions, and exhibtions.

MvVO AD ART SHOW Award Jury Winners

The crescendo of the evening was the announcement of the winners of AD ART SHOW 2023. The night belonged to Parme Marin, a visionary artist whose sculptural and mixed media creations charm and challenge. A long-time collaborator of Hermés, the French creative plays with a blend of leather, blown glass, wood, and paper to conjure a symphony of emotions, a dance of spatial dynamics that leaves the beholder almost amused by beauty. She now emerges as a luminary in the art world, earning the coveted Special AD ART SHOW Clio Award.

Also recognized was the captivating talents of Tobi Shinobi, the abstract mixed media photographer who marries the analog with the digital, forging a connection that beckons viewers to engage with his work. Drawing inspiration from the digital sphere and his TikTok adventures, his creations are a harmonious fusion of worlds and earned him a prize for the night.

Marco Gallotta, the expressionist mixed media artist, takes viewers on a mesmerizing journey through his paper-cutting techniques, watercolors, and printmaking skills. Layer upon layer of artistic genius, coveted by collectors, fashion brands, and the most esteemed museums.

MvVO ART / AD ART SHOW's lead sponsor, OUTFRONT Media, illuminated the night, bathing Times Square with the brilliance of the winners Parme Marin, Tobi Shinobi, and Marco Gallotta on the colossal Cube Billboard. But the celebration of art didn't stop there, as the works of the remaining top ten artists graced billboards across the nation, from New York to Los Angeles, from Chicago to Miami, showcasing the grand scale of creativity.
